About The Event

“Some People Call Me the Space Cowboy” is an audio documentary conceived around an interdisciplinary image – the Space Cowboy – a marriage of traditional Western frontier exploration and technology-driven space travel. These listening sessions will provide a unique opportunity for modern audiences to gather together, suspend the need for visual stimulus, and listen to a story. Themes addressed include: What becomes of the American explorative imagination when the moon is a place that is as “Instagrammed” as Monument Valley? If the future of space exploration relies heavily on robots and other non-human technology, what becomes of our Space Cowboys? How can we ensure the future of exploration will not exploit humans nor resources, nor perpetuate systems of inequality?
